On May 25, 2016, Aspen Ladd (3-0) informed the brass at Invicta Fighting Championships (Invicta FC) of her interest in landing a spot on Invicta FC 18: Grasso vs. Esquibel.
The head honchos of Invicta FC: President, Shannon Knapp, and Matchmaker, Julie Kedzie, mulled over Ladd’s request and offered her a hefty task, pairing the recently inducted bantamweight with Jessica Hoy (1-0). No matter the opponent, Ladd punctuated her excitement when the phone finally rang:
Ladd is a competitor with a ‘been there, done that’ attitude, so a smiley emoji at the end of a Tweet compares to that of an elaborate touchdown dance in the NFL. She lets her nonstop aggression and unbreakable spirit highlight why she’s a world-class athlete, which may have been why Knapp and Kedzie were so willing to approve Ladd for the July 29th card.
At Invicta FC 18, Ladd’s trip to the “Show Me State” will reveal—to the Missouri residents in attendance at the historic Scottish Rite Temple and those logged in around the world on UFC Fight Pass—her dominant skillset. Ushered into Invicta FC at nineteen years of age as a flyweight, Ladd has since shed her 125 pound skin, and wiggled into the contours of a new bantamweight covering, which fits like a four-ounce glove.
Invicta FC 16 versus Kelly McGill was Ladd’s trial run in her new weight class, and she performed flawlessly. Even under strenuous conditions, such as several days notice and overcoming a horrendous illness, Ladd plastered McGill to the mat and pounded out her third straight win in the all-female MMA promotion.
Facing Synicate MMA’s Hoy next month, Ladd intends on layering another piece of evidence to her campaign at 135 pounds, proving, again, size doesn’t matter. In Hoy’s last outing, she competed at lightweight (155 lbs.), though turning mountains into molehills has become customary for Ladd.
During her time as a professional, Ladd has yet to exhaust all fifteen of her regulated minutes. In fact, she specializes in deflating the wills and souls of opponents with her intense offensive mindedness, and at Invicta FC 18, the plan remains the same when she meets Hoy in the center of the cage.
